‘Spotcode’ is a project by the systems research group at Cambridge University which uses visual recognition of tags by mobile phone cameras to turn the mobile phone into a controller for external devices. Once the tag has been recognised you can control the properties of an interface by physically rotating or sliding your phone. For example, you might rotate your phone to alter the volume on a digital jukebox or slide your phone to increase the zoom on an image.
They imagine this being used for large scale displays e.g. in shop windows where physical access to the display is limited or not possible.
